About College Application Tutoring
We can do it more affordably and more flexibly.
This morning I listened in on a webinar by a former University of Chicago admissions officer who now works for an agency that exclusively provides guidance with the college application process. I use the word "exclusively" in triple meaning: that's the only service they provide; they focus exclusively on the highest prestige universities; and they exclude most families from working with them by being very, very expensive.
I like two things about this agency: they "give back" by providing a lot of free webinars and podcasts, which has been a valuable addition to my professional development. And they consistently focus on students doing what they are passionate about -- not just ticking boxes in a rat-race to get those acceptances. I'm on board with that!
However, as you can see on our "Reviews" and "Congratulations" pages, the student I worked with this year just got in at almost all of the 17 schools she applied to, and at a small fraction of the cost her parents would have been charged elsewhere. Furthermore, she is extremely psyched to be going to a university that is not among those highly prestigious 20 or so. She's found the proper fit for her.
As Jeffrey Selingo points out in his book, Who Gets in and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions, there are enough places in college classes for all our graduating high school seniors, every year. The United States has WAY more colleges and universities than the Ivy League.
If you're interested in a person approach at an affordable price, I'd love to talk to you about college application tutoring at Advance Tutoring.
